Neighbors, over the past year there have been a disturbing number of occasions involving thefts from cars in our neighborhood. Late at night or in the early morning hours several individuals in a vehicle enter our neighborhood. Two or three individuals get out of the vehicle and start checking parked cars for unlocked doors. If the car door is unlocked, they enter the car to look for items to steal. They check glove boxes and consoles looking for anything of value. In general, there have been few instances of actual breakage of car windows or doors (probably to avoid triggering car alarms). So, (1) lock your car doors, (2) do not leave items in your car that are visable (laptops, packages, etc.), do not leave firearms in your vehicle unless they are in a secured locking comtainer (not a glove box), do not leave garage door openers in visable places in your vehicle. If you don't lock your vehicle, don' leave anything of value in the vehicle. Finally, if someone breaks into your vehicle even if nothing is stolen please report the matter to the police and/or to the homeowners association.
